Essential Typing Tips
Practical techniques to break through speed plateaus, prevent fatigue, and master keyboard accuracy.
1. The Home Row Anchor
Your eight fingers must always return to the Home Row: A, S, D, F for your left hand, and J, K, L, ; for your right hand. Notice the small raised bumps on the F and J keys — your index fingers should feel these bumps to orient your hands without looking down.
2. Prioritize Accuracy Over Raw Speed
Speed is a natural byproduct of accuracy. When you rush and make typos, the time cost of recognizing errors, hitting backspace, and re-typing characters destroys your net WPM. Maintain a steady, calm rhythm at 98%+ accuracy, and high speed will follow automatically.
3. Ergonomic Posture & Hand Position
Keep your wrists straight and floating slightly above the desk rather than resting heavy palm weight on hard surfaces. Your elbows should bend at approximately 90 degrees, with your screen positioned directly at eye level to prevent neck strain.
4. Practice in Short, Focused Bursts
Deliberate 15-minute daily practice sessions are significantly more effective than occasional two-hour marathons. Use our Daily Challenges and Zombie Typing Game to build consistency and keep training engaging.
